I'm blogging from Canada ... burrr. It's been a nice few months since returning, but now the weather is cooling down =( We've had frost twice, and many days requiring our coats & toques & scarves. So, if you happen to think of us Canadians <strike>in pity</strike>, send up a prayer for an Indian summer.

This post is to continue on with a few more ideas & things that we do naturally to help us stay healthy. My last post on this topic included:
* Gargling with salt water * Steam Rooms * Raw Garlic * Chest Physiotherapy * Physical exercise * Cough Tea * and of course Nutritional Supplements!!! Below are a few more =)

Drum-roll ...

Essential Omega Oils for joints and cognitive brain function (Omega 3) - I take fish oils & D3 (5,000 IU 3x per day) Another great way to naturally get Vitamin D is to get out in the sunshine for at least 30 minutes a day if possible. I envy all you living in a warmer climate that can do this year round =)

MMS (Miracle Mineral Supplement) - To use, I squeeze one fresh lemon. Use 5 fresh lemon drops per 1 MMS drop. I usually take 4 drops at a time. After putting the lemon juice & MMS in a glass cup, let it activate for 3 minutes.
Then we use a pure pressed pineapple juice (not from concentrate) to add to the mixture for the sake of our taste-buds and drink =) It can be done up to every 2 hours. Especially when fighting a cold or bug. On a normal basis if we're feeling healthy we do it either once a day or twice a week. (Whenever we remember)

Casein Removal - 80% of the protein in Milk is Casein. When you consume casein, your body is seeing it as a foreign protein, and you land up producing histamines which end up as mucus. That's why it's mucus forming. This process takes 10-12 hours.
Let's not forget the law of replacement ... people use milk everyday in so many different things. So, substitute Cows Milk for Almond/Rice/Hemp milk. I personally use and LOVE Almond milk. We either buy Almond Breeze, or make it ourselves. We have a great, simple recipe =)

MSM (Methylsulfonylmethane) - MSM is great for so many things. It helps detoxify the body and increase blood circulation, it relieve stress, inflammation, etc ... the list goes on. I get a glass of warm water, dissolve 1 tsp, and drink as often as I remember. Anywhere from 1-4 times per day.

Alfalfa - Most CF patients are on either on ADEK's or SourceCF or some other form of Vitamin K. Vit K is excellent for blood vessels and much more. We started using Alfalfa in January of this year. We buy it in bulk and make them into pills for daily use.

Colloidal Silver - Kills virus' & bacteria ... I take it only when I'm sick, or if I feel something coming on.

The Nutritional Supplements I take (product name not listed on my blog) include Vitamins & Minerals, Enzymes (natural ones), Probiotics, Carbohydrates, Phytonutrients, Phytosterols, and Antioxidants.

That's all I can think of for now, have a great day & stay healthy!
Aline

"Promise me you'll always remember: You're braver than you believe, and stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think." So proud of you Mel!!!!

We just finished up with the Harvest. Our family garden measures at 307ft X 90ft. It definitely kept us busy these last few months. Weeds, weeds, and more weeds. Great opportunity to soak in the Vitamin D & enjoy the WONDERFUL summer God gave MB this year. I honestly cannot complain at all – we had wonderful temperatures! That said – we’ve gotten into the below 0°C weather several times and sleet once. It was -7°C a week ago. Winter is coming fast, we're expected to get snow this week… =( The wise Canadian geese are flying south. Makes you stop and smell the roses. You don't take even the smallest things for granted. Breathing & birthdays are two big ones =) After struggling with CFAA (CF associated arthritis) from age 9-18 I walk and hold things with joy. Most people take for granted the ability to get out of bed and walk. Or pick up their kid. Thankfully I don't struggle with it anymore - PTL =)

I would like to give a shout out to Cystic Life – If you have CF, or are a parent, spouse, sibling or friend of someone who has Cystic Fibrosis, it is the ULTIMATE site! Check it out :) Ohhhh =) 2 'transplant' answers to prayer! Elijah (the little boy my sister Rebecca used to nanny for) got a heart transplant on Oct 2. He is doing great! & My CF friend Jordan got a lung transplant on Oct 1! Keep her in your prayers though, she's having a rough recovery & other health issues. I found it so amazing that those prayers were answered one day apart. God is SO awesome =)

A few weeks back, I randomly opened up the bible & read Romans 6. Blew, my mind. The thought of Christians who by grace have been saved, yet continuing to do what they've always done simply. doesn't. make. sense. Continuing in willful sin that we'll just have grace thrown at us? GOD FORBID. There is a big difference between willful sin (James 4:17), and accidentally screwing up now & then, which we ALL do. I was talking with a friend of mine, and we couldn't figure out when it became OK to do certain things. Remember back in the day when some things were abhorred by all and you just didn't do them because you know they were WRONG? Different actions, vocabulary, attitudes, mannerisms etc... It's a slow fade. Nobody just changes overnight into doing all the things that they knew were wrong. Slowly but surely - people & things around us associate sin with pleasure, and humor and we take the bait. The bible says to be transformed by the RENEWING of your mind. Ya. Anyway...just blew me away.

To close, I’ll leave you with an odd fact - There are more than 40,000 toilet related injuries in the United States every year. LOL, nawww I’ll leave you with a few words of wisdom from Ghandi – “You must be the change you wish to see in the world” =)

Sweetly smiling,
Aline

*Cystic Fibrosis*
State Of Mind

I am so grateful for the amount of time God has given me – I celebrated my 20th Birthday this May. So many kids never get to see that birthday, which breaks my heart. The CF community lost a dear soul last month. Connor Jones at the age of 7 got his CF wings & flew to heaven. RIP buddy. My heart goes out to Brad & Sarah…((hugs)) God will bring you through ♥

I’m so thankful that I was raised to live a healthy life by doing things naturally. Today is my 1-year anniversary of NO antibiotics!!! I get asked so often how it is that I’m so healthy. People who meet me have NO idea that I have CF. My clinic appointments go smoothly & quite frankly, can be done over the phone. I am on NO medications whatsoever. As a CFer my goal is to outlive any statistic. So, I take certain measures to make sure that happens.

**My CF Preventative Health Remedies**

In the last year, I have come across so many different things that help in maintaining good health & they are really simple. For example;

* Gargling with salt water 2-3 times a week. It kills the bacterium that stays in the throat area for 3 days once exposed to. So if you do it twice a week, you’re good to go =)

* Steam Rooms!! I typically go for a ‘steam tune up’ once or twice a month depending on how I feel. Some months I go more often…it really depends on how you’re doing. If you don't have a steam room in your area, simply boiling a pot of water & breathing over it (with a towel over your head & pot) for 15 minutes does the trick!

* Raw Garlic =) Because of it’s Antibiotic properties, I like to have a spoon full of raw freshly pressed garlic 3-4 times per week. Keeps me off of harmful drugs that mess me up. As long as you brush your teeth & use a good mouthwash afterward, it’s undetectable! Make sure you don’t take it on an empty tummy – not a good idea!

* Chest Physiotherapy. Kate & I also do therapy 1-2 times per day. Keeps the lungs clear =) to make it fun, we like to watch our favorite shows/movies to keep us entertained. Works VERY well :)

* Physical exercise. SO important! I have a treadmill that I use twice a week. I run & run … love it! Also, having small nieces & nephews keeps me on my toes :) Physical exercise helps things keep moving, therefore making it harder for infection to set in.

* Cough Tea. While in Virginia, my sister Helene came across a wonderful cough tea. You can purchase it from Bulk Herb Store. It has red clover tops, licorice root, and ginger root… it helps loosen phlegm, calm bronchial spasm & relieves respiratory congestion. I find it’s GREAT to take before bedtime.

* Nutritional Supplements! I think it's pretty lame that Health Canada says I’m not allowed to say which ones on a public form. So much for freedom of speech. Just because I’m still alive, and not in the hospitals 24/7 I have to keep my mouth shut as to why I’m this healthy. Just read my CF story that I blogged several posts ago to see how nutritional supplements played a role in how I'm doing. Please message me if you want to know more =)

When I think of Cystic Fibrosis, and how people embrace it, it’s really all about your state of mind. Every person on earth is dealt different cards in life. Some are good, some not so good. There’s a saying that goes “it’s not the cards you’re dealt, but how you play the game”. There is so much truth to that.

Sure, I can choose to play the game of the victim. Technically I have an excuse to pin it on – Cystic Fibrosis. I can choose to be depressed in life, or angry with God because I have CF. People make decisions every day of their lives. They choose whether or not to wear a red or blue shirt – whether or not to skip breakfast – whether or not to take the stairs vs the elevator. They're tiny little decisions, but yet somehow they form our lives. Our whole world revolves around the choices we make.

Every single day I make a choice when I wake up. What will others see in me for the day? Will they see a victim of circumstance or a cheerful fighter? Will they see a happy go lucky girl, or a moody girl? I’m not saying that everyday is a basket of roses, and that CF doesn’t affect me, because it does. Some days…I’ll be honest, they suck. Completely. I’m down & ill and I feel like I’ve been pushed down a dark staircase. All I want to do is fight my way back up where I can see the light, and feel the freedom that comes with a healthy day. Thankfully there are more good days, then bad days. Praise the Lord!!!

So regardless of who you are, or what issues you face, whether it’s CF or something totally different, just know that YOU have the power to overcome any obstacle. Based on the little choices you make everyday. The choice to smile. The choice to never back down. The choice to fight. Fight for what’s right, never believe something just because a so-called wise person said it . Believe only what you yourself test and judge to be true. Raise up others around you – be that shinning light that God wants to use. He created you for a reason.

Here's a little tip I thought I'd share with you - if a long life is something you want, then please, whenever possible, AVOID the hospital. Hospital acquired infections is the 4th largest killer in Canada & United States ... uncool.

Quote of the day "God gives every bird his worm, but He does not throw it into the nest."

Aline Elias

It’s Canada Day? No way. Cool.

{forgetfulness effects 5/5 people today}

Wow…the year is half over already! Where did the time go? I finally sat down & decided to update my blog – I realized I hadn’t blogged since I was in Virginia. Ahhh good times =) Kate & I have been home for a little over 2 months and we’re fully adjusted to being back in Canada again. It took time. Trust me…it did.

When I returned from D.C. I was discontent. It was everything in me to not board the plane back to Virginia with my sister.
On one hand, I missed my family more then words can express, but being out of my comfort zone for that long had instilled a bit of independence in me. I liked it…maybe a little too much. It’s not all that easy returning to your ‘box’ of life that you’ve been in for 20 years. Especially if that box, happens to be Winkler.

After a month of trying to readjust to life here, I was reminded, Phil 4:11 “in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content”. Once that set it, adjusting became self-evident to me.
I was still extremely annoyed with how things work here…the way people live, act, drive, and carry on. It's very different from how people are in VA. I came to realize that Winkler is it’s own culture. A culture that I’ve been defying ever since I learned to walk. As humorous as that might be, it’s true.
I’m happy being back with family, and my church, which I missed tremendously. It just took awhile to get my head out of cloud 9.
Who would have thought? I’m laughing as I type this…I had so many reservations and fears about leaving Canada in the first place, and here I am … wanting out. Again. I guess it just goes to show that the things you're most afraid of in life, are usually the most worth while.
A thought crossed my mind that seemed pretty brilliant to me, and that is; everyone at some point in their life, anytime after graduating, should go completely out of their comfort zone, to a place far away and just observe. Observe a different way of being, working & living. I think life is WAY to short to stay in our ‘box’ our whole lives. God gave us a BIG world – so go out and SEE it! Experience what God has given us :)

Virginia was amazing. In early March, we went to an NHL game (naturally) It was Washington Caps vs. Dallas Stars. It was an INCREDIBLE game, but the Caps lost. In a shoot out! I mean REALLY Ovechkin, of all the times to miss, you had to pick that day. {Shakes head} lol it was a great game though – lots of incredible energy & a great night out in D.C.

While in VA, Kate had her 18th Birthday, so we decided to make it an AWESOME day, and surprised her with a Limo that took us by the monuments in DC. It was so much fun!

A different day we came back into DC & went to the different Smithsonian museums. We even saw the Hope Diamond =) fun, Fun, FUN!!!

That said, my time away from home was amazing – it was a GREAT & healthy way to spend the winter. I had SO much fun living with the Welch’s & meeting new people :) I miss them very, very much. But I am very happy to be back at home with my other family. Getting to see my nieces & nephews every week is priceless.

We returned to Canada for Abe & Rebecca’s wedding, which was a BLAST! All us girls, together with our Mom, made several lasagna’s & LOADS of other food for the special day. Mmmm good! Abe also got baptized in the lake in June – we’re so proud of him! Welcome to the family Abe – you make it into slot # 21 =)

Speaking of slots, we’re expecting family member #22 in early October! Bill & Mel are expecting baby #3 =) Now, you all know how ‘right on’ I’ve been so far with guessing the babies gender – both boys. This time around, I have no gut feeling. None whatsoever. At this point, it’s 50/50. I’m just praying for a healthy & happy baby that will be named uniquely. By uniquely I mean NOT A MENNONITE NAME. No offense, I just think it’s this generation’s job to phase out the Johns, Jakes, Abe’s (sorry dude), Isaacs, Helen’s, Anne’s, Margaret’s, etc…

So far, all my nieces & nephews have been given wonderful names! Linaya, Alycen, Kristiana, Anderson & Trenton.

There’s nothing like feeling the new baby kick and move around. God’s miracles are so amazing. I’m grinning ear to ear just thinking of how Jesus is forming a little child in Melodie, that I get to meet really soon. I’m SO excited!

I've been reading in Job. Wow. That book of the bible has some deep stuff. My current goal is to learn to have the patience of Job. I've also been occasionally veering back to Genesis. The other day as I was reading Genesis 42-46, I realized that wow…Joseph was SO the bigger man. Lol the term “bigger man” my sisters & I use all the time for whoever rises above everyone though kindness, or hard work, or just being the bigger person in a situation. I was like WOW Joseph, way to go. I mean, not only did he have a colorful coat, which made him AWEsome, he also had amazing character.
With what his brothers put him through, he could have easily chosen to be bitter & eventually put them to death. Instead he had a little fun of his own, and eventually when the time came, he wept, and welcomed them with open arms. He told them not to feel grieved, or angry at what had happened. He saw that God had sent him ahead, and used him to preserve a generation for them and save their lives. I mean wow…way to step up and be the bigger man.

A few weeks ago, I looked out on the road, and I saw this wee little fox trotting around. Our dog saw it soon after I had, and decided to chase it around. This little guy, which we later named “Kristofferson”, was a runt, and was wet & cold. He couldn’t outrun our dog – so our dog chased & chased him all the way to our house. We felt bad for the little guy, so we coaxed him in a live trap, and took the dog away, and let him free to his family. His mother & 2 siblings had been trotting around the yard, sniffing & looking for their lost fox.
I just love the wildlife we have around our place. We’ve had foxes, coyotes, cougars, bobcats, groundhogs, raccoons, deer, skunks & snakes. Everything about the living the country life is just, so, random =) I love it!!!

On that note, I’m logging off for now. I’ve been reading through an AWESOME book that Helene got me called “Preparing To Be A Help Meet” by Debi Pearl. It is so good; I recommend it to any girl – married or unmarried. It's also great material for a women bible study!

I'll leave this with an encouraging tweet from L.L. Cool J that I love: “I can choose to indulge in my frustrations or I can choose to create a habit of happiness” Have a great Canada Day =)

Aline

*Cystic Fibrosis*

In memory of all our Cystic Fibrosis Angels, who have already gotten their wings.

"God saw you were getting tired
And a cure was not to be
So he put his arms around you
And whispered "come to me".
With tearful eyes
We watched you,
And saw you pass away.
Although we loved you dearly,
We could not make you stay.
A golden heart stopped beating,
Hard working hands at rest,
God broke our hearts
to prove to us,
He only takes the best."

You will never be forgotten Gracie. Wow, I can’t believe 2010 is already here, and January is pretty much over with. WOW!!!! So much has happened since my last post (shame on me for being a slacker…)

In mid December after a long day at work, Chris & Helene just showed up! It completely surprised all of us :) They stayed for a few weeks to celebrate Christmas with us, which was such a blast – we had some good times & made some awesome memories! This was his first Christmas with us, because they couldn’t make it up last year.
Because of the timing, we got to do one last Elias Family Picture for 2009 with all us which was awesome.
Chris got to see what Canadian weather really feels like.

Unfortunately he didn’t get to experience a Canadian blizzard with our family, they actually left the day before a huge storm hit. :( But no worries, there are plenty of years to come for him to be here for one! We introduced him to the different Canadian/Russian/German/Mennonite foods that our family was raised on, and he really liked them!

This Christmas, Bill acted in his churches Annual Christmas Cantata, he did such an amazing job. I got his autograph & everything!!!

As for New Years celebrations, BIG NEWS!!!! Wait for it...wait for it...wait for it...Abe & Rebecca got engaged at the stroke of midnight bringing in 2010!

A few of us were around the table playing games & cracking jokes, and as the countdown began, we grabbed our ice tea jugs, and counted down. 3…2…1…Rebecca went in for the kiss, and Abe got down on one knee. It was sooooo cute, she had no idea, he totally surprised her, and she was so ecstatic! She was like yes, yes, YES!

It was so amazing to be there – the wedding plans are coming along nicely & smoothly. YAY!!!!! They are so in love & it’s so cute :) A May wedding is being planned. Then our family will FINALLY have 21 people and we can finally put him in the yearly family Elias photo. This is the gorgeous ring :)

More big news ... I'm blogging from VA! Since Canadian weather is so hard on us CF girls, this year, Kate & I got to come fly out to Washington D.C. to stay in Virginia with Helene & Chris & the Welch family for a few months.
The difference in climate is amazing, last week when Virginia was having 67 Fº, Manitoba, Canada was having the blizzard of the century and –49 Fº. Yes, that’s right, MINUS –49 Fº. So we’re very thankful to be out here, enjoying the weather & company. Getting to go on the different Military bases, with the Welch family is amazing. I LOVE IT!

The coldest it's been down here is nothing compared to Canada. This morning we got a couple inches of snow here in VA, but it's beautiful and will be gone by next week. It's funny to see Americans freak out at the least bit of snow, or cooler weather. They cancel everything and educate people how to "deal" with this weather and how to drive. It makes me laugh :)

The trip down here was interesting. Then again, MOST trips us Elias girls take land up being super interesting. This…was no different. We landed up having some nasty turbulence while entering D.C. and the isle & exit signs lit up. It was a rough land :)
We’ve already made so many awesome memories out here in VA. We’ve gone to two different churches, which is cool.

I had a few reservations about leaving Canada, but so far it’s been worth it & so much fun!

I miss home like crazy, especially my nephews which are so small to know we’re gone :( Phone calls home are always awesome, sometimes teary, but awesome! I definitely don't miss Canadian weather though, this is a nice break. I've dealt with 20 years of Canadian weather, and God finally gave me a nice break. Thank you Lord!!!!!!

Health wise, things are GREAT!!!! I just celebrated my 6-month anniversary of no ER visits & no Antibiotics. God has been so good, I feel great. I’ve come across some different things that I find SO helpful in my fight against Cystic Fibrosis.

One being Steam Rooms!!! You can find them in Spa’s or at your local Gym. It is so very helpful.
I’ve already mentioned Garlic, and how awesome it is. One significant advantage of garlic is that the body does not build up a resistance to it as it does to many modern antibiotics. This also makes it effective against hospital super bugs. There is so much more information about how HELPFUL Garlic is, especially for Cystic Fibrosis patients, but the info itself would make this posting longer then life itself lol. So my suggestion is if your wanting more info, just Google it.

You’ll be amazed at all the awesome things you’ll discover :)

Here’s a Spanish saying for the day: A la ocasión la pintan calva. You have to make the most of the chances that come your way. ♥

Happy 2010,
Aline

It’s a BOY!!!

August 18, 2009 - 2:00am - So, it’s late and I’m tired. I’ve had a long day at work, and as it is I get to bed later then planned. MUCH later then planned. 2am to be exact.

So – when my head finally got to my pillow, I was out like a light only to be awakened by my mom at 3:56am to run to the phone, as I had an urgent phone call.

I ran over to the phone and it was BILL!!! Mel had been in labor since 11pm, and things were progressing quickly – so after hearing plenty of screaming in the background, I got dressed, and rushed over to the ER as instructed to do. I picked up my nephew Anderson to take him home with me to sleep and hang out with my family until the baby was born.

I just want to put it out there, that you have no clue how strong your sister really is until it’s YOUR hand that’s being squeezed during a contraction. You also have no idea how loud someone can be until it's in your ear their screaming out in pain. I have one word. Ouch. But I'm so proud of my big sister - she's such a trouper :) Love you Melodie.

August 18, 2009 - 4:40am - Bill & Mel finally got into the hospital, and one hour and 46 minutes later, with NO pain medication whatsoever Melodie delivered a beautiful healthy baby boy :) Trenton Jaxon was 6lbs 14oz, and 20 ½ inches long.

He's such an amazing little guy, so strong, and so very handsome. Anderson loves his new brother, hearing him say his name "Enton" (hahaha) is so adorable. He always tries to help, and he constantly brings Trenton some of his toys so that they can play together, we kindly remind him that Trenton's not old enough to play with the toys yet :) I have the best nephews :)

He was so tiny – in preemie diapers & clothing. We’re convinced that with the rushed measurements done by the hospital staff, that the length was completely off, because he was WAY shorter! His supposed length was half an inch different then Anderson's at birth, but yet the sleepers that fit Anders at birth were MUCH to big & long for Jax. But no worries, within two weeks, he went from preemie diapers, to newborn, and to size 1. He’s growing like a monster, and is so precious and such a delight :)

Here's a photo of Linaya (10), Alycen (8), Kristiana (3), Anderson (2) & Baby Trenton - 5 grand kids in 10 years :) I love you all so much!!!

So, again, I won the bet (muhahahhahaha) – sorry, I just found the moment appropriate for the evil laugh…however I am not $10 richer :( But it’s all good, they gave me a nephew, so our score is settled – I’m just happy that (I GUESSED RIGHT!!!) and that he is a happy, healthy baby. Both Melodie & Trenton are doing amazing, thanks for those of you who prayed.

Moving right along with other updates – Rebecca & Abe are celebrating their 1-year anniversary. They’ve been dating for a year, today – yay :)

Chris (Helene’s husband) recently got back from his training in the Air Force, and Helene is very happy to have him back. It’s been a little over 8 months since he left, so we’re all happy that he’s back & safe:)

Since my last post, I got the thumbs up from the doctors to go back to work. Part-time only of course, but still, I was super excited about getting out 3 days a week to work, it was ABOUT time! It’s been almost 2 months now, and together with my sister Katherine, who is such a wonderful help and blessing, we nanny for a family nearby with 2 children. Alex (3), and Samantha (1). It’s a wonderful job, we also clean, and cook, and take care of laundry, but it’s so wonderful to finally be back at work doing what I love to do most – care for children :) There are days that are more difficult than others, but God gives the grace and patience that’s needed.

Health wise, things are going great – I’ve discovered that especially in CF patients how important the use of Garlic is. I did an experiment a couple months ago, by adding raw garlic to my diet a couple days a week whenever possible. Simple raw garlic chopped up and put in a spoon, drizzled with honey on top. If your interested for more information on Cystic Fibrosis & Garlic, click here. It prevented any & all infections & coughs for 5 ½ months. The reason for my illness that occurred after 5 ½ months was caused because I was trapped in a snowstorm blizzard. My sisters, mom & Abe, were trapped in a car, in the middle of nowhere for hours. We went 22 hours with no food, and little water, and no cell reception. We shivered in the cold for several hours, but the Lord came through, and we survived. We’re so thankful, because given the situation, and the location we should have died. (CANADA) But God had bigger plans for us, and delivered us – thank you Lord! If you want to read more about that whole experience, add me on Facebook (Aline Elias) and I have it posted. I know several of you wanted the typed up version of what happened that day, and I finished it awhile back and it’s posted.

I’m on a mission to read through the entire bible for the first time. I know, shame shame, I’m 19 years old, and I was raised in a Christian home, but yet I have never finished reading the entire bible. I’ve read several books in the bible over, and over again but never the entire bible. So that’s my current goal, to read my precious KJV bible from cover to cover. So far, so good, I’m almost finished Exodus. It’s amazing the things I’m learning – I’m also reading through “Good & Evil” – which is the ultimate super hero comic book based on the bible stories. It captivates the hearts & minds of children & adults alike. It’s content is based on the King James Bible, which is the written word of God to English speaking people. It’s amazing, and as the holidays get closer I would DEFINITELY suggest it as a gift – you can order your own copies at No Great Joy - it’s worth every penny :)

In conclusion, I wanted to throw in this awesome quote I heard the other day, "Life is short; break the rules, forgive quickly, kiss slowly, love truly, laugh uncontrollably, and never regret anything that made you smile....."

Make it an awesome & joyful day,
Aline

* Cystic Fibrosis *

Going down memory lane...19 years ago...
- A Tribute to my Parents -

Aloha fellow bloggers :) Life is going really well - things seem to be falling into place for the most part. This may sound vague, but I’d like to take a moment to congratulate myself for doing an update this soon - - (Taking a bow) - - (bow taken.)

Today is June 12, 2009. Today exactly 19 years ago my parents came into the hospital only to hear the doctors tell them that their little Aline had Cystic Fibrosis. They we're told that if I were lucky, I'd make it to my 18th birthday, MAYBE my 20th birthday. They were told that it wouldn't be easy. There would be countless hospitalizations. A life of pain and eventually an early death.

There are times when my parents get on my nerves as any person can relate to, but at the end of the day, I love them both so much.. I have to say with a grateful and thankful heart that God gave me the parents He did. In every way possible, my dad was and still is the perfect dad for me, and my mom - the perfect mom for me. Both of my parents are fighters and fought for my 2 CF sisters and me. They both love me in a way I will never completely understand. I probably don't say it enough, but I appreciate everything my parents did for my sisters & I...it was selfless and love in it's purest form. I love you both :)

My parents went against the system. In my parent’s eyes, there was no way that their daughter would become "just another statistic". Their blue eyed, blond haired bundle of joy was to precious to let that happen to.

For those of you who’ve read my Cystic Fibrosis story (a couple posts ago…) you’ve read things that both of my CF sisters and I went through. The tube-feedings, the countless bouts of pneumonia, and the fact that we couldn’t do what all the other kids could do. With so many activities such as playing outside on a windy day, and during the winter we’d stay inside 24/7. My father would gently tell us “others may, you may not”. We were raised to know that we would outlive any statistic. We were protected so that it would be possible to beat the system.

When I was 2 years old, we moved out of the city to a new province. We moved to a nice county farmhouse with clean country air. Acres apon acres to play in, build forts, plant flowers, and have kittens & a farm dog. My dad purchased several goats, and we got a fence put up, and my older siblings milked fresh raw goats milk twice a day for us 3 CF girls. After each meal we would drink a glass. My parents knew that was one way to keep us healthy. This being the main reason I hate milk today lol :) But anyways…
My parents decided to become our own personal health experts. They both went through so much to take care of my sisters & I…It took a lot of effort to keep me healthy and out of the CF hospital ward. My parents have been in the ER waiting room with me on Christmas day instead of participating with other holiday activities many, many times.

But here…now…19 years later, after 6 years on God given nutritional supplements I’ve lived all these years with 2 hospitalizations. TWO. Every appointment the doctors are amazed. My doctor told me that most CF patients at my age are in and out of the hospital every 1-2 months. I’ve had doctors ask me why I even bothered to come to my checkups. I have a new lease on life. I wake up every morning with a smile on my face, knowing that I am the luckiest girl in the world. I am so blessed :)
The knowledge that my parents obtained 19 years ago about my health, was a smile on the devils face, and an opportunity in the eyes of my God.

God has used my Cystic Fibrosis in so many positive ways. He’s used me to tell others about natural ways to stay healthy and live longer with CF…I’ve spoken in front of crowds of 15 thousand in the audience, with 500,000 live online viewers about the nutritional supplements that have given us our futures. Rebecca, Katherine & my CF story has influenced many people and helped so many other CF patients around the world – in South Africa, New Zealand, Australia, England & North America.

God is so awesome. He is my heavenly Father. My protector. My refuge. My strength. Through all our faults, and failures, He’s chosen to love you and me. He stands by our side through everything we go through. So for all of you who are going through a rough time, just remember He’s with you every step of the way. Smile, Jesus loves you :)

Aline :)

- - Quick note here...the first 2 photos above I took from my yard :) The 3rd photo is of Rebecca (21 - black hat), Katherine (17 - brunette), & me (19 - blonde) - The 3 CF girls - taken in 2008 :) - -

2009 Elias Update :)

Wow. It's been 2 years. 2 whole years! All I can say is facebook took over. That's my one and only excuse. I apologize to all you bloggers that have been emailing me to update the blog, things have been hectic and very busy, and I'm now FINALLY taking the time to update it :)
This picture above was taken in July 2008 - these are my siblings. All 10 of us kids :) From left to right with our ages that we will be turning this year: Nathaniel (15), Jonathan (28), David (9), Helene (23), Aline (me - 19), Rebecca (21), Melodie (26), Katherine (17), Chantelle (30), and Sara (13) - again - these ages are what we will be turning (some have already had their birthdays) in 2009.

Alright! Updates in the last 2 years are the following. My family now totals 19 people. Soon to be 20 - My sister Melodie is pregnant with her second child - due in August 2009 - JUST so yall know, my prediction of her first child's gender was RIGHT on!! On November 19, 2007 Anderson Cole was born :) He is such a delight, and so much fun to be around! I have a $10 bet going with Bill (Melodie's husband) that this baby will be a .... BOY! And Bill says $10 says it will be a girl so we'll see...I'll let you know who wins that bet, who makes $10 and WHAT the babies gender is lol :) The photo above is Bill, Melodie & Anderson - 2008

Helene got married this last December (Dec 10, 2008) to Chris Welch in Virginia. I was her maid of honor, which was so special to me. She is one of my best friends, and it was just so amazing! Our WHOLE entire family drove out to Virginia for the wedding, meanwhile Chris, Helene & I flew. Hahahah!!! It was a beautiful winter wedding, and the weather was exceptional for December. It was in the 50's!!!!! Absolutely gorgeous weather! Just so you know, this up above is the updated Elias family photo - that's all 19 of us at Helene's wedding. Baby #20 on the way :) The 2 new family additions are Anderson Cole Harder (Bill & Melodies son) & Christopher Welch (Helene's husband)

Chris & Helene met on the 7 day & 7 night Mexican Riviera Cruise that my parents, Rebecca, Helene & I took in 2007 (late October). The trip was an incentive earned by the company we work with - how awesome is that???

Hummmmmm lets see here...I recently just got back from Texas - for MannaFest 2009 which was SO AMAZING! I learnt so much. I got to hear John C. Maxwell live, and other famous people!
I met new awesome friends, and we even got to go to an NHL Dallas Stars vs Minnesota Wild game. Of COURSE Dallas won!
This photo is of Helene, Katherine & I at the Stars game :) We had a really interesting trip down to Dallas, by request I typed it up and posted it on facebook, warning it is over 4 thousand words...it didn't take very long to type because I typed just about as fast as I talk :) Which just goes to show how lazy I am for not posting on my blog lately. Again - I am sorry - But ya, we had a complete blast in Texas. Texas is my favorite place in the whole world!! One day I hope to live there. Hopefully I can convince my family to come too :)

Stan & Chantelle haven't had any more kids since Kristiana (3). Linaya (10) is doing VERY well in school, Chantelle is homeschooling Alycen (8) for now. Stan & Chantelle have now been married for 11 years and are so adorable together! This picture here is Stan, Chantelle, Linaya, Alycen & Kristiana :) Beautiful family!

Jonathan is still very single...I'm hoping he'll settle down soon. He is really focused on work and golf right now lol :)

Katherine (my 7th angel) is doing her last year of homeschool.
Nathaniel has lately grown to LOVE golf - just like his older brother Jonathan :) They play all the time - year round. If it's not the golf season, then they snow golf which may be hard to comprehend if your not from Canada or a place where there is feet and feet of snow year round :)
Sara is helping out at Melodie's. My mom, Katherine & I have been teaching her to cook, and do laundry lately, it's about time she learned :) She is doing so well, and she is SOOO smart. Her brilliance amazes me daily!
David is truly his fathers son. He is a replica of my father. Only 50 years apart lol. He looks like him, talks like him, acts like him...he's a little Harold :) Buuuut we love do love him, it's just sometime necessary to bring him to reality and remind him that he is 9 years old, not 50. Sometimes with David it's a challenge, but it's worth it at the end of the day. He's sooooo cute and so precious. He's my little Race :)
Katherine, Nathaniel, Sara & David are all enjoying homeschool like crazy! I love spending everyday with them, they are so precious to me!!! Homeschooling rules :)

Rebecca (aka Joey) is in a relationship with Abe (see the photo), who she loves very much - they've been going out for 6 months now, and they are SO adorable together :)
She is still working at Timmy's and loving it! She is very good at what she does, and she still does Mannatech P/T.
Rebecca's health is doing AMAZING, so we're really thankful for that. She is the oldest with Cysitc Fibrosis in our family. Just by looking at her picture, would you be able to tell that she has CF? I don't think so! She's so beautiful and so healthy! Thank you Lord!!!
Rebecca recently made some HUGE changes to her head of hair, she went BLONDE! Now people say we look like twins...whhhatever. I'm wayyy cooler.

I am currently the oldest at home. I graduated in May 2008. I was going to move to Calgary last November for a job, when I got very very sick. Bags were packed - the plane tickets were bought, but because of health I had to turn down the job offer. But even though I didn't understand it at the time, God had it all worked out, and I'm enjoying living at home. I help out with the schooling of my younger siblings, I do some studying for a University course, and I'm building my own business. So it all worked out for good. Mannatech totally rules!!!

Health wise, I'm doing much better now. I started struggling with Hemoptysis. I got hospitalized for it in August 2008 after I got back from Toronto, ON (visiting Helene where she lived & worked BEFORE she got married in Dec...) where they pumped me full of drugs that royally messed me up. I did well for a couple months after my discharge when it got bad again. They brought me into the hospital for admission - they had my room ready and the IV woman ready to go, and I said no. I was not very happy. I told them that i wanted a bronchoscopy done, and they refused. So I signed a couple papers, and against their medical advice I walked out of the hospital. I asked for a transfer to a different hospital which was granted to me 2 weeks later with an amazing medical team that agreed that if I had a bout of hemopytsis again, that they would definitely do a bronchoscopy.
I'm happy to say that I haven't needed one, or to go to the hospital in a long time. I've been very healthy, with the occasional cold here and there. I was raised to be responsible for my own health. When I'm losing blood, I want to know where it's coming from & what's going on so I can decide what's the best way to go. In this day & age, you have to become informed as to how your body really works & then therefore make informed medical decisions.
I'm not against antibiotics at all, they have their place. But using that to always treat the symptom instead of getting down to the ROOT of the problem is what I don't like & I refuse. The body heals itself if given the right tools.

It's March 2009. Unbelievable. Another thing I should mention is that my sisters and I left the Tae Kwon Do club we were at in November of 2007. There were issues, and we left. But we very much so appreciated the many years of training and teaching. I will never forget it.
I miss my students, I miss MY instructor, but we're doing ok. This photo is of the last national competition that I coached - those are two of my younger students, who both brought home GOLD!! They are so awesome, and I'm so proud of them!
Ahhh the good times :)

Well, I have a busy day ahead of me, but I'll try my very hardest not to let it be 2 years before my next post :) If it lands up being more then a couple weeks, feel free to bug me. Every now and then i need a little reminder :)

In closing, just remember to live life as if today was your last day. Cherish the moments God gives you. Tell your family how much you love them everyday :) Stay healthy & stay young! God Bless :)

Aline

My Cystic Fibrosis Story

When I was 3 weeks old I was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis, which is the # 1 genetic killer in children. My parents were told that the average life expectancy of a CF patient was between 18 - 24 years old.

Part of having CF meant having very thick mucus, pneumonia, digestive problems, having to take enzymes with each meal to digest my food, and problems gaining weight. I had to be extremely careful if I caught a cold or the flu because it can very easily mean hospitalization. To help loosen my mucus, my mom had to give me chest physio therapy for 20 minutes, 2-3 times a day.

Tube Feedings

I had to have tube feedings for the first two years of my life.
This meant that my father had to replace my feeding tube every two weeks by pushing it up my nose, down my throat and into my stomach. He had to be careful that it would not go into my lungs or else it would puncture my lungs or stomach. Which if punctured lungs/stomach aren't dealt with immediately it will be fatal. The whole scenario of tube-feedings was very hard on both my parents. My mom who is a very emotional person as it was, could not be around when my father put in the feeding tubes. My older siblings tell me that Rebecca & me would scream for quite some time. All from the pain of the tube getting put in. It was always my fathers job to put the tubes in, and then my mother would be gotten inside to comfort us as babies/toddlers. This went on for the first 2 years of my life. Mostly all my baby pictures have a tube & tape on the side of my face just like the photo above.

My family was introduced to some nutritional supplements in December 2002 and within 6 weeks my need for digestive enzymes were reduced my 70 percent. And after 4 months I was completely off enzyme medication that had been a daily experience all my life.

My mucus became thinner, which is amazing - because it's not suppose to according to medical professionals. My weight gain problem improved big time which shocked my doctors, because we were now actually on the growth curve. We were getting better and better and our doctors mouths just kept dropping lower and lower.

It's amazing how the body can heal itself when given the proper tools. I praise God every day for this miracle He's brought into my life and the life of my 2 CF sisters that also had the same struggles and results with these supplements that I had.

Now I know I'm healthy enough to get married one day and have children of my own knowing that if God tarries his coming I'll see them grow up and get married and have children of their own. The first picture of me above is me leaving the WPG hospital after an amazing clinic where all I heard was GREAT news! Praise the Lord!

I just want to say thank-you to my parents who at first were quite skeptical after years and years of searching for ways to help us and keep us alive but tried it anyway, and most of all to God Almighty who watches over me everyday, I love you!

Aline

Texas Bound...

Ok, it's been months since I posted last...whopps!

Guess what??? There is new news.....Melodie is pregnant! Yes....yes I know...the effectual fervent prayer of the righteous man availeth much! Hooray! I'm thinking it'll be a boy, but everyone else is voting that it'll be a girl...well it's me against my 17 family members...we'll see how this plays out.

Yes January came & went and guess what? Helene & Rebecca came home! Rebecca will stick around, but Helene's going north. Way north. Man I will miss her lots! She is my ultimate role model...if I could be like anyone on this earth, it would be her. I love her so much!

Kristiana is walking, at just over a year she is walking EVERYWHERE! It's insane! She's also trying out her english and failing at it but I will have to say that it is the cutest thing ever seeing her try to learn to talk! No, I'm not entirely biased, but I do have the most adorable nieces in the whole wide world!

This past month was interesting, my sister Kat and I did a 1 week nanny job for friends of ours that have 4 boys all under the ages of 9. We were on our own, the parents were 15 hours away. Needless to say it was VERY interesting! It included everything...even taking them to church and watching ALL of them. It definitely taught us a lot, so for that I'm very thankful...

Tae Kwon Do is awesome. There have been some new kids coming lately, and it's so fun to teach them :) They are so cute! Kids are awesome :)

My driving is going great! Impeccable if I do say so myself. Wow, life is so incredibly busy! I feel bad (seriously) for not writing since the end of April, but wow things have been really busy! Word of the wise ya'll: plan as much of your wedding before you meet your mate! And don't...DO NOT wait till the last second to plan stuff. There are so many alterations...evil, absolutely evil! I mean, don't get me wrong, wedding planning is really fun, but if you don't give yourself enough time, things CAN and WILL get stressful! But the wedding is in 5 days...and then...REST..... (!!!)
For me, I would love a small outside (perhaps beach...) wedding. Something with immediate family, and our closest friends. Something that doesn't involve a ton of stress, because after all this is suppose to be one of the most important days of our lives right? So why...I mean WHY do people stress so much about it? That is stupidity at it's best. For real.

Moving right along...lets see, Tae Kwon Do is going amazing! For the summer my older sister (Black Stripe) is teaching, so that's fun! And as of June, Rebecca and Helene flew back to Canada! It's so awesome to have them back home, even if it's only for a couple weeks. I love them SO much! It's going to be hard letting them go again, and then not seeing them until Christmas...it breaks my heart...

K, i'm re-reading the book of John and starting with Romans...so good! I really like them. I'm memorizing a couple chapters in Romans...it's so much fun!

Well, i'm craving tomato soup and crackers. Next time, i'll try and make sure that it's not 2-3 months before I write again...

Just in case any of you were wondering, the blogger Joey (a.k.a Rebecca) is my older sister!

Aline

Update...

I feel so bad for not writing in my blog lately, but things have been SO busy!!! My niece Kristiana is doing so well! She's growing like crazy, and she's such a joy to have around! Her smile makes everybody smile...she's so cute! This photo is of Kristiana & her sister Alycen - my precious princesses! God's creation is so amazing! It just makes me sick to think that people in this world abort precious babies. It makes me want to barf. SICK AND WRONG.

But, on to more positive things, I was tested for my Blue Belt (in tae kwon do) and guess what? I passed! Awesome, or what? I really wished that my two older Tae Kwon Do sisters Helene and Rebecca could have be there to see it. They are the reason I ever started Tae Kwon Do...and I just miss them so much...I hope they come home soon. I love them :)

Ok, more exciting news about a DIFFERENT sister...this news is about Melodie (the 23 year old) and she got engaged!!! A July 22, 2006 wedding is being planned! Do you know what this means??? MORE NIECES AND NEPHEWS!!!! I know that sounds selfish, but I have my own reasons for getting my older brothers and sisters married off! (Shhhhh...don't tell)

Let's see here, I'm reading through the books of Acts and John....and there really interesting books...when it comes to the bible, I'm a total KJV person! K, one quick question to those of you reading this...how's your prayer life? Is it what it ought to be? Just ponder that for a moment...

Well, I got to go and make tea...have an awesome day, and remember to pray! Hey, sweet, that even rhymed! lol!

~Aline

THE BABY IS FINALLY HERE!!!

Hey Everybody! I am now a VERY proud auntie for the third time! Little Kristiana Felicity made it into the world safe and sound on February 9th! She's such a joy to have around, and the cutest bundle God ever created! She has 2 VERY proud older sisters! Thanks to everybody who prayed for her and her mama...everybody is doing fine! SO thanks, thanks, thanks!!!

School is great! I love being homeschooled :) Getting to learn alongside my siblings is the best!!!

Tae Kwon Do is so awesome! I'm so thankful to God for giving me such an awesome experience like Tae Kwon Do! My instructor is amazing, and the students are truly talented! God is SO good!

Um...lets see, now that I'm reading through Matthew (KJV) it's really awesome! I'm learning all about the miracles of Jesus Christ! He is SO awesome...I'm so grateful to have such a best friend like Jesus...just like Proverbs 17:17 says...A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity, plus there's also the awesome verse found in Proverbs 18:24b...and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother! And that friend is called Jesus! Remember...read your bible, pray everyday and you'll grow, grow, grow!

I'm incredibly healthy thanks to Jesus, and the God given gift of the nutrients my sisters & I are on! My body has benefited so greatly from supplementing my diet with these nutrients...having Cystic Fibrosis was so challenging as a child...especially for my extremely hard working mother...so we really thank God for the friend that suggested the amazing nutrients to us...the nutrients I'm mentioning in my blog is a new recent medical discovery, that is amazing! If you'd like to know more about these nutrients, or my personal Health testimony for Cystic Fibrosis, feel free to leave a comment, or even email me! I'd be happy to hear from you!

I must go now...so be good, Read your bible, pray everyday, eat well...and try and ween yourself off of Pepsi and Coke. If your gonna do any soda...please do yourself a favor and stick with Root Beer! It's the best tasting soda pop ever...especially with pizza! Peace People!

Aline

Happy New Year Everybody! 2006 is FINALLY here!

Aloha Bloggers! Mahalo Nui Loa <-- that means thank you very much in Hawaiian!!! Aline

Humm....Life....

Hey my fellow bloggers! I know I haven't updated my blog lately, but I've been really busy! Life is awesome, and I couldn't ask for more...actually technically I could ask for warmer weather...minus 30 is getting annoying, but I'm dealing with it!

I'm been reading through the book of Proverbs lately, and I love it! It's filled with truths, and these awesome pointers! My favorite chapter in Proverbs is definitely 31! I love it!

Tae Kwon Do is going great! I currently have my Orange belt, and I'm working my butt off so that I'll become a green belt soon! I have the best instructor anyone could ask for, and I'm SO blessed!

Things at home are great! My mom likes her Job, and dad's doing a good job homeschooling us kids! Since there is 10 kids in our family, I guess my dad is blessed that only 6 still live at home! LOL! But my dad has help...since our family is doing BJU Homesat, it's WAY easier for him!

I don't know...I guess all i can say, is that I'm a happy 15 year old blonde and currently I miss my sister Helene like crazy! I can't wait till she comes home, çuz when she does I'm gonna hug her and NEVER let go...

Christmas is nearing, and I'm in TOTAL shock! I mean Christmas just happened! It's way to weird...the older you get, the faster the years go by...it's strange how that works!

Well, not to be negative, but I'm suppose to be exactly half dead! Based on recent studies, the current life expectancy of a Cystic Fibrosis patient is 30...but my 2 CF sisters and I have been extremely blessed that friends of ours told us about amazing nutrients, and my 2 sisters Rebecca and Katherine are doing so well, that the doctors truly ask us why were even there at check-ups, because we have the lives of normal children! I'm so thankful that God has supplied these awesome nutrients in our lives! If you need more information on the God given nutrients that my 2 CF sisters and I are on, just leave a comment on my awesome blog and I'll get back to you asap!

God's been good and currently I'm really in a happy mood, çuz life is good, and I'm also listening to an amazing song by Rex Goudie called "Run" it's a beautiful song...and if any of you bloggers know where to find the lyrics to this song, I'll be REALLY extra happy, çuz I can't find the lyrics ANYWHERE! Not even google has them!

The best thing you can do today is read your bible and pray, trust me, you'll never regret it. Someone once asked me what was the best 5 things I had ever done in my life time, and I simply answered him "I got saved, I got baptized, I read my bible, I pray, and I try to show love to as many as possible" he was simply shocked by my answer, but I just smiled :) Jesus is the love of my life and I intend to spend the rest of my lifetime growing in and through Him.

Have a blessed rest of 2005, and a happy new 2006 year! I just have one prayer request for anyone that reads this, and that is for my oldest sister. She's married and will have her third baby soon, and that baby means so much to me already, and all I want to see is that baby come into this world healthy, and happy. So please take 1 minute outta your day, and say a quick prayer for my sister and her unborn child. Well time's up, and I must get back to life! God Bless!

Aline

Here are 20 quotes that I thought were cool!

1.
